Acceptance of minutes from last meeting deferred (due to Mary Fluke not sending themaround properly to be reviewed!--will do in the coming week on the e-mail list).
Unfinished business:
Logo--Lynn Rowell presented a sketch of a PBGV head in profile against a drawingof a map of NC/SC surrounded by the club name and date of founding in a circle. The group unanimously approved the design which Lynn will refine and complete. Thank you,Lynn!
Membership Application. Mary Fluke presented a proposed membershipapplication (designed based on the parent club application with bits and pieces from othergroups and from our discussion at the last meeting in December). Copies were reviewedand suggestions made for corrections and refinements. The final version will be sent out on the e-mail list for any final revisions and then an up or down vote by the membership.
Article 1 of Bylaws--we neglected to specifically go through this section during theDecember meeting, but discussed most of the pertinent issues while considering themembership application and process. Mary Fluke presented a copy of the AKC sampleBylaws Article 1 which included amendments and corrections based on that discussion.
Carla Gillette proposed that we increase the maximum dues from $35 (as originallydecided at the 11/26/05 meeting) to $50. Seconded by Susan Hattox. Motion carried.
Discussion of sponsors: the concern was whether the sponsoring members for anapplicant needed to be from different households or could be from the same one. LynnRowell moved that we leave the wording at “in good standing” and not be more specific.
Seconded by Donna Bruce. Motion carried.
Discussion of membership types. Donna Bruce pointed out that we needed tospecify what types of membership would be offered. We settled on Individual Membership (one vote), Household Membership (two votes), and Junior Membership (less than 18, half price of individual membership, and no vote). (Note that dues were setat the November meeting at $15 for individuals and $20 for households.) Junior membership would be required for a youngster to participate in club sponsored junioractivities.
Mary Fluke will finalize language from Article 1 and send out the final version forreview on the e-mail list.
Proposed specialty to be held in conjunction with the Langley Kennel Club shows inHampton, VA in May of this year. Donna Bruce reported that she had attempted to getapproval from the parent club to sponsor the specialty but that by the time that she hadpresented enough documentation to convince the appropriate people that we could in factdo this, the deadline had passed. (Thank you, Donna, for your efforts.) However, despitethis setback, the opportunity now exists to set things in motion for 2007. Bobbe Jackson moved (Ralph Hattox seconded) that we undertake to host a PBGV Specialty at theLangley Kennel Club Shows in Hampton, VA, in May 2007. Motion carried. Donna asked that suggestions be made for judges. She will go ahead and initiate the paperwork and getthe ball rolling.
Kim Turbyfill reported that the money that we donated at the last meeting wasactually enough to do trophies for both days at the MidAtlantic Hound Show in Raleigh,NC, in May. The Saturday trophies will be listed as offered by individuals (BOB--BobbeJackson and Lynn Rowell, BOS--Donna Bruce and Jill Neuschaefer, BOW--CareyBeverly, Winner Dog--Maggie Lutz, Winner Bitch--Ralph and Susan Hattox, Best puppyin sweeps--Carla Gillette, Best oppsite in Sweeps--Mary Fluke, Best Veteran in Sweeps--Lisa Schermerhorn, Best Oppsite Veteran in Sweeps--Kim Turbyfill. Sunday trophieswill be listed as being donated by CBGVC. Thank you, Kim, for taking care of this for us!And thank you to club members for their generosity!
New Business:
Bank account. We decided to leave the choice of bank up to Mike Williquette for herconvenience. Lynn Rowell moved (Alisa Witt seconded) that we require that anyexpenditure over $500 require the signatures of both Treasurer and President (less than$500, treasurer only). Motion carried.
Bunny Hunt/HIT in February. We are offering a DNA blood draw during thehospitality session on Saturday evening, 7:30 pm at the hotel. Mary Fluke and KimTurbyfill will draw the blood. For blood to be submitted, a completed application includingAKC number, and a pedigree will be required for each dog. We would like people to dotheir paperwork ahead of time, but we will have some copies of applications available thatevening.
Next meeting will be held at the Piedmont Kennel Club Show in Charlotte, NC,weekend of April 10-11. Time and location TBA.
Ralph Hattox moved that we adjourn the meeting at 12:50 pm. Nobody seconded andwe didn’t vote, but everybody left so I guess that’s what we did!

Minutes of the last meeting were accepted without correction.Mike Williquette gave the Treasurer’s report as of 4/7/06:
| Income | Membership Dues $320 Raffle $ 41 | |
|---|---|---|
| Seed Money $ 0 Silent Auction (HIT) $307 | ||
| Total Income | $668 | |
| Expenses | Bank ChargeFood & Beverage | $ 16.95 $ 67.93 |
| Total Expense | $ 84.88 | |
| Balance | $583.12 | |
Mike opened the account at SunTrust--they gave us a $50 gift card that we can use to buy
supplies or whatever.
Secretary’s (and sort of Treasurer’s report)--we have 28 paid members as of the meeting
time.
Old Business:Constitution and Bylaws. Mike W. asked whether we actually had enough people presentto make a decision--we decided that 20% of the membership was adequate based on thewording of Article VII Section 1 (Amendments to the Bylaws). Some discussion ensued. The question was raised about the requirement that aprospective member have to come to a meeting before being approved. The concern was that this might be hard since we don’t meet very often. We decided to leave the
wording as it was since that was part of the AKC sample document, but we would makeprovisions to avoid hardship to prospective members. There was also discussion of the term limit for Board members (Directors). The concern wasthat we needed more continuity than 1 year terms would provide. Lynn moved that weincrease the term to 2 years, seconded by Kim Turbyfill--unanimous approval. We’ll work out a rotating schedule for the 3 Directors based on drawing lots initially. It suddenly occurred to us that nobody was really officially a member yet since we hadn’treally approved anybody. Mary Fluke raised the question about what criteria definedcharter membership (who don’t have to be voted on) and we decided to say that anybodywho had submitted dues and/or a membership application as of today’s meeting was acharter member. Any further memberships will be approved based on Article 1 of theBylaws. We approved ourselves as Charter Members (and everybody else not in attendance as well) so that we could go ahead and vote to accept the Constitution andBylaw (moved by Lynn Rowell, seconded by Kim Turbyfill--accepted unanimously).
New Business: Supported entry for GMKC shows in November.Kim T. said that she had had an e-mail from the Greater Monroe Kennel Club asking if wewanted to do a supported entry for the show in November 2006. We decided that we will do it for the Saturday show. Kim will execute the paperwork through PBGVCA since wearen’t official yet. We can hire a sweepstakes judge. After some discussion of characteristics for the judge (well known? not well known? local? not local?) several names came up. The top three choices were Ann Legg (Shirley Van Camp to contact), GayleGold (Bobbe Jackson to contact), and Linley Hinson (Bobbe Jackson to contact), allcontacts to be made in order of presentation. Other names that were suggested wereHelen Ingher, Debbie Perrot, Elizabeth Cates, Lynn Rowell, Bobbe Jackson, LisaBruzzone, and Donna Bruce. Mary Fluke volunteered to do the trophies for the supportedentry (with a little help from her friends, project to be completed by mid June).
Upcoming 100th Anniversary of the Griffon Vendeen Show in France--April of 2007.Announcement of a possible trip to go to the show--unfortunate conflict with the PBGVNational for next year. More about this later.
Hunt Test in fall of 2006? Many PBGV people are assuming that there will be another Hunt Test in October but thereare no settled plans for this. Kim asked about the responsibility of the PBGV HuntCommittee in undertaking the planning for this event (Betty Barth, chairperson), but itappears that what is required is for 5 PBGVCA members to form a committee to put onthe individual trial. There was discussion of how the money works--if the 5 people askPBGVCA for seed money, then all profits go back to the parent club. If no seed money isrequested, the sponsoring club can keep the profits, but here again Carolina PBGV Club isnot officially sanctioned yet so this may not really apply in October 2006. Kim’s concern was that it not all fall on the same people over and over again (namely Bobbe, Lynn, Carla, and the other folks that have always pitched in). Bobbe explained that there were 3 jobtitles--Hunt Chairperson, Hunt Secretary, and Hunt Treasurer. There was some discussion of dividing the Secretary position between 2 people, someone to do the paperwork inadvance of the test date (creating premium list, receiving entries, preparing catalog) andthen another person to be the Field secretary (create schedule for run times, manage theschedule at the site on the day of the trial). We could do a dinner and a hospitality event(including auction) which could benefit CPBGVC. Money from the actual hunt test would goback to PBGVCA. Ralph and Susan Hattox were suggested as a possible team to dothe Secretary job(s) but there were not other volunteers to take on other jobs. Mary askedBobbe to write out a description of each job position as it would be easier to recruitvolunteers as they would have a better idea of what they were getting into!
Insurance:During the HIT discussion, Mike W. raised the question of insurance. Carla had looked into this back in the fall but mainly through the auspices of AKC and what they could provide(see November minutes). Mike said that her obedience club in Florida is insured through acompany called Sportsman. She will look into what is available and what it would cost. We probably can’t afford it right now.
Social Event:Mary and Kim raised the idea of setting a date for a social event (with a sheepish requestthat Bobbe and Lynn host it at the farm). The intent is to have a good time, but also to givean opportunity for the members who do not show to be able to participate in club activities.Along with some kind of meal and socializing, we could also have other activities including apet grooming seminar by Kim, a talk by Mary about health screening for pet dogs, anobedience/Rally demonstration (Mike W. and Mary), and fun runs on the agility field(Bobbe). Bobbe will look at the calendar and see what date looks good, shooting forJune. Next meeting to be held at the June social event.
PBGV National:
Kim offered to bring back souvenirs from the National in Sacramento. If you want her to
bring you wine glasses, contact her and give her money.
Meeting adjourned at 12:40 pm (moved by Mary Fluke, seconded by Lynn Rowell,
unanimous approval).

Minutes from April meeting were accepted.
New Business:Discussion of upcoming Hunt Test October 20, 21, 22. Beverly Childs (not present)submitted her report (attached of preparations for hospitality on the field and also for theSaturday evening “do” at the hotel.Ralph and Susan Hattox reported their readiness to undertake the Field Secretary duties.Carla Gillette volunteered to be their mentor/helper since she has some practicalexperience. There was some discussion of how to organize the set up/pack order. We need to check to see if there is to be electrical access on the field (for computer use?) A reminder was offered to have a calculator ready for adding up scores.Mary Fluke reported readiness to do the microchip clinic (Friday evening 6:30 pm) and theDNA blood draw following at 7 pm. She will need 1 club member helper to do paperworkfor the microchips, and better 2 helpers for paperwork for the DNA blood draw. She will bring along an assistant to help with the actual drawing of the blood (plus a grooming table).A quiet area is needed for the blood draw, preferably not in a bathroom like last year!
Supported entry at the GMKC show in Concord on Saturday, Nov. 18. Mary Flukereported that the trophies were submitted to GMKC and ready to go. (Kong toys to all thebig winners and a fleece toy at least to all class winners--MF likes everybody to go homewith something!) Mary will do a microchip clinic (CPBGVC fundraiser) on Saturday (not atthe same time as PBGV ring time or Rally Novice, please!)
Supported entry at the Hampton, VA shows in May 2007. Because of the mess up lastyear, Bobbe suggested that we have more people sign the letter/petition to PBGVCA so that the ball doesn’t get dropped on the national level. There was some question as towhether it would be a supported entry vs. a regional specialty.
Bobbe pointed out that we needed to start planning to do our 2 “B” matches. Mary Flukeasked if we could do a Rally match and have that count? (Need to check about AKClicenses and stuff). Bobbe explained that for a PBGV match, as long as there were at least5 dogs and the paperwork was all done correctly, it would count. (Lisa Schermerhornoffered to host a pool party and match sometime when the weather was good!--might aswell have a party!)
Discussion ensued of the money making potential for popular performance events (Rally,
Agility) and how holding such trial could be big fund raisers for a club (example of how the
New Jersey (or is it Mid Atlantic?) PBGV club went to France on the proceeds of their
agility trials!)
Even just a Rally Show and Go can be a money maker. The key would be to find an
appropriate location (PKC? Durham KC building? Felicity Latane Center in Chapel Hill? in
the pm after the MAHA show in Raleigh? Winston Salem KC or Dog Training Club?)
There was also discussion of whether the hunt activities we are doing already would count.Bobbe explained that PBGVCA wasn’t licensed through AKC yet for hunting--still in theprocess of getting that sorted. We couldn’t get the license until the parent club did so that’son hold for now. Bobbe proposed a goal of settling on the October weekend as anational hunt for PBGVCA ultimately.
Next meeting to be held in Concord at the GMKC shows. Time and place TBA. (Dinner
meeting on Saturday since we have so many members who will have duties and
responsibilities during the day for the show.)
Meeting adjourned at 3:20 pm.

Carolina PBGV Club meeting, Greater Monroe Kennel Club, Concord, NC, Saturday,November 18, 2006
In attendance: Ralph and Susan HattoxLisa Bruzzone Kim TurbyfillMary FlukeCarla Gillette Victoria Gillette Pat HodgesIvor and Michele Keelan
Meeting called to order at 12:10 pm.
Minutes from the last meeting were approved. There was no Treasurer’s report presented at the meeting.Secretary’s report: Barbara Oxholm’s membership was approved by the Board Pendingmemberships include Victoria and Chuck Cantor, Shirley Knipe and Debbie Perrott, and NancyTerhune. An application was received from Paul and Carole Urban (to be posted via e-mail forreview by the membership). Mary Fluke raised the issue of trying to solicit members from thelocal area (meaning centering on Charlotte/Hickory to try to maintain the “Carolinas” identity. The idea is for current members to try to solicit people who live in this area (puppy buyers?). Lisa Bruzzone observed that as a new club we really couldn’t/shouldn’t turn down people whowanted to join based on address. Mary clarifiied the idea to say that we wouldn’t turn anybodydown, but we would try to solicit people locally. (If anyone wants to give/send a membershipapplication to a prospective member, Mary Fluke can send it as a .pdf file by e-mail.)
Old business: Ralph Hattox gave a brief report on the Hunt Test (October 20-22). There were 51 entrees for the HIT, with 47 actually running of which 20 passed (yeah!). There were 4 entrees additionally for the Scored Test. Well done everyone who worked on the weekend sosuccessful. The silent auction raised about $500 for the club.
New business: Kim Turbyfill proposed that the CPBGV members offer trophies for the MidAtlantic HoundAssociation shows in Raleigh in May (both days). Anyone who wants to sponsor a trophyshould contact her ($15).Susan Hattox suggested that we keep the same slate of officers (seconded by Ralph Hattox, unanimously approved). We will have the official vote at the annual meeting in Winston Salemnext month. (Kim Turbyfill, president; Bobbe Jackson, vice president: Mike Williquette, treasurer; Mary Fluke, secretary; Lynn Rowell, Carla Gillette, Shirley Van Camp, Boardmembers. Note that the term of membership for board members is two years with rotatingmembership so we’ll have to figure something out about that. Does anybody else want to beon the Board?)A question was raised about the supported entry for the Hampton, VA shows in May. DonnaBruce has undertaken this project. There was discussion of the meeting schedule, namely that we need to make it more clear inadvance with regard to time and place. Ralph Hattox asked that we might have a meeting at theshows in Salem, VA, or in Hampton, VA. In addition, we decided to keep to the convention thatmeeting time would be based on when PBGVs were in the ring: if PBGVs show in the morning, the meeting will be at the noon break; if PBGVs show after lunchtime, the meeting will be afterthe Hound Group. Hopefully this will allow people to plan more easily. Next meeting atWinston Salem, Saturday, December 9, 2006Pat Hodges said that she had written a letter to PBGVCA asking to have a supported entry inLouisburg, WV, in 2008. Decision is pending.Meeting adjourned at 12:32 pm. Minutes submitted by Mary Fluke.
